The Zoning Board of Appeals, also know as one of the "Special Permit Granting Authority:" consists of three members appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. The Board of Appeals acts on matters within its jurisdiction under Sections 10 and 11 of Chapter 40A of the Massachusetts Generals Laws, as amended and subject always to the rule that it will give due consideration to promoting the public health, safety, convenience and welfare, encouraging the most appropriate use of land, and conserving property value, that it shall permit no building use, injurious, noxious, offensive or detrimental to a neighborhood, and that it shall prescribe appropriate conditions and safeguards in each case.

Aid to Filing ZBA Applications
ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED IN DUPLICATE AND MUST INCLUDE:

A COPY OF THE DEED

LIST OF ALL PROPERTY OWNER'S NAMES AND MAILING ADDRESSES OF ALL ABUTTERS WITHIN 300 FEET.

NAME AND ADDRESS OF OWNER ON APPLICATION

PLOT PLAN

PLAN OF PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION WITH AN OVER VIEW AND FRONT VIEW DRAWN 1/4” TO 1' SCALE.

THE APPLICANT WILL BE BILLED BY THE WESTFIELD EVENING NEWS FOR THE LEGAL AD.

APPROVAL OF THE ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A BUILDING PERMIT. BUILDING PERMIT SHALL BE OBTAINED PRIOR TO ANY WORK COMMENCING.

APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED UNLESS ALL PAPER WORK IS RETURNED IN DUPLICATE.

THE ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS MEET THE FIRST AND FOURTH WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH. THE FIRST WEDNESDAY IS TO ACCEPT ALL NEW APPLICATIONS AND VOTE ON PRIOR APPLICATIONS. PUBLIC HEARINGS ARE HELD ON THE FOURTH WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH."

ALL PAPERWORK SUBMITTED MUST BE IN DUPLICATE OR THE APPLICATION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
