Sanitary Sewer Improvement Program

The Sanitary Sewer Program was arrived at in conjunction with the Environmental Impact Report for the expansion of the Water Pollution Control Facility. The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) required identification of those areas to receive sanitary sewer extensions for which treatment capacity was being designed. A similar undertaking, known as the Facilities Plan, had been conducted when the treatment facility was first constructed in 1973. Questionnaires were mailed out to all residents inquiring into septic system problems. An extension program, also known as the Strategic Plan, was then developed which has been only partially completed. That plan was then modified based upon input from the department's of Health, Public Works and Engineering. A funding level was determined at $750,000 since authorized by Mayor Sullivan and the City Council in June of 2002. The current projects under way in this program are as follows:

  • Llewelyn Drive Sanitary Sewer Improvement, design to commence in 2009, construction in 2010 with completion in 2011

    • Roderick Drive
    • Donald Drive
    • Belden Drive
    • Evergreen Drive
    • Bates Road (Western Ave to Belden Dr)

    Recent projects completed under this program are as follows:

  • Shaker Heights Sanitary Sewer System Improvement, construction completed in 2008
    • Falley Drive
    • Steiger Drive
    • Crawford Drive
    • Phillis Lane
    • Trimmer Lane

    This project made sanitary sewer service available to these same streets as well as Raymond Circle.

  • Meadow Brook Lane Sanitary Sewer System Improvement construction completed in 2007.

  • Greif Bros. Way Sanitary Sewer System Extension construction completed in 2007.

  • Eastwood Heights Sanitary Sewer Improvement, construction completed in 2006
    • Eastwood Drive
    • Woodcliff Drive
    • Sunbriar Drive
    • Briarcliff Drive
    • Leacview Drive
    • Christopher Drive (to Amy Drive)

    This project made sanitary sewer service available to these same streets as well as Salvatore Drive, Marla Circle , Partridge Lane and Mockingbird Lane and put in place the infrastructure necessary to continue on to Joseph Heights and beyond.
