| COMPUTER CLASS | | There will some exciting changes for the fall line-up of computer courses offered at the Senior Center beginning in September. Each course will consist of ten classes held twice a week for five weeks. Three different levels will be offered so that novice learners as well as those with minimal or advanced computer skills will have opportunities to participate. The "primary" level class offers an introduction to the computer at the most basic level, while the "Beginner" level includes work processing, corresponding with family and friends through e-mail, and searching the internet for information. The "Intermediate" level is for those who have mastered the basics and are interested in exploring specific areas in detail. Class size is limited to five students, making individual attention and ample time for review possible. The cost is $50 for each five-week, ten class "course." For more information or to sign up for a fall computer class, contact Joanne at the Senior Center on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 10 to 3 at 562-6435. |

Be a "Blanketeer"
Our Wednesday morning Knit and Crochet group has joined the local chapter of "Project Linus". The mission of Project Linus is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth, and comfort to children who are seriously ill or traumatized through the gifts of new handmade blankets and afghans lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers". All styles of blankets in child friendly colors are welcome. The only requirements are that the blankets must be handmade out of materials that are machine washable and dryable. Blankets are distributed locally to Shriners Hospital, Brightside, Baystate Medical Center, and the Ronald MacDonald House. If you would like to participate in this worthwhile project or if you have yarn to donate, please contact Tina Gorman at the Westfield Senior Center. |

2008 Pioneer Valley Memory Walk
Join Our Team! The Alzheimer's Association's 2008 Pioneer Valley "Memory Walk" will take place on Sunday, September 21st at Stanley Park. The Council on Aging will be represented with our team, the "Westfield Walk-Abouts." Because it seems that Alzheimer's disease has touched all of us in one way or another, we're encouraging every senior to join our team either as a walker, or by donating monetarily to the cause, or both. There are three walking distances from which to choose: a half mile, a mile-and-a-half, or for those who are very ambitious, two miles. The half-mile distance is doable for many of our seniors, so please consider joining our team as a walker. If the walking distance is problematic, there is another way to show your support. Memory Walk is a fundraising, pledge-based event. Any monetary donation will be greatly appreciated. Simply put your donation in an envelope with "Memory Walk" written on the outside and drop it off a the Senior Center office. No amount is too large or too small. Checks should be made payable to the "Alzheimer's Association." Funds from Memory Walk stay in our local community to support, educate and improve the lives of those affected by Alzheimer's disease. If you have any questions or would like to join the Westfield Walk-Abouts team, please call Tina at the Senior Center at 562-6434 |
