Firefighter of The Year Award
Captain BountinCaptain Rebecca Boutin Honored
Captain Boutin will be honored for outstanding acts of heroism and bravery at the Annual "Firefighter of the Year" Award Ceremony. Captain Boutin was recommended for the award by Firefighter Makos who had become separated from the hose line and disoriented while trying to get out of the second floor of a structure fire because he was running low on air. Captain Boutin retreated to the ground level because heat conditions became unbearable she immediately recognized Makos was missing and reentered the burning structure.

Boutin followed the line into the area and found the nozzle open and unattended with no sign of Firefighter Makos. She started a search by crawling and feeling in the room with no visibility and very high heat conditions and found him by kicking him in the shoulder. She assisted him over her back and he was able to crawl out following the hose line. Firefighter Makos is convinced that he was in a life threatening situation and without Captain Boutins rescue he may not have made it out of the fire.

Governor Deval Patrick will present the 23rd  annual Firefighter of the Year Heroic Awards at a 10:30 a.m. ceremony on December 18, 2012 at Mechanics Hall, 321 Main Street, Worcester, MA. The public is invited.
