DPW & Technical Academy Horticulture Program Team Up

Early this May the Department of Public Works worked with a team of students from the Westfield Technical Academy to plant 100 trees and bushes at the site of the decommissioned Tekoa Reservoir off of West Road. Recognizing Arbor Day, the team of a dozen students and staff planted 50 trees and 50 bushes along the banks of the old reservoir. The Tekoa Reservoir was deemed unusable and removed from service long ago but remained a pond until 2019 when the dam was removed, restoring the brooks natural flow toward the Westfield River.

These new plantings were done in an effort to bring back the area to its natural state, and will help prevent erosion of the brook’s banks for decades to come.
