Community Services Unit

Community Policing was introduced to the Westfield Police Department in 1994, starting with a single officer assigned to the Orange Street area. Since then, the initiative has grown into a dedicated unit, the Community Services Unit, which now consists of five officers under the leadership of a supervisor. While the Community Services Unit focuses on community policing efforts, this philosophy is embraced department-wide.

The five officers assigned to the Community Services Unit are each responsible for specific geographic areas within the city’s core district. Below, you will find a color-coded map that outlines the designated areas for the Community Services Unit. Though a select group of officers dedicates their time specifically to community policing, all department officers are committed to the same philosophy of working alongside residents to identify and address local issues.
