[ARCHIVED] Westfield Police 19th Citizen Police Academy

The Westfield Police Department's Citizen Police Academy provides members of our community with an inside look at law enforcement. The Citizen Police Academy is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the operations and resources of the Westfield Police Department.  Participants will interact with police executives and veteran officers during the academy. The goal of the Citizen Police Academy is to provide a greater awareness and understanding of law enforcement's role in our community.   

The 19th Citizen Police Academy begins on January 31, 2023 and runs through April 18, 2023. Classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Westfield Police Department, 15 Washington Street. There will be one Saturday class that is held at the firing range.

The following areas of the Department will be covered:

Introduction, History of the Westfield Police Department and Department tour

Criminal Law & The Justice System

Financial Crime & Fraud

Drone Deployment

Patrol Procedures

Drug Identification/Crime Scene

Defensive Tactics & Use of Force

Community Policing and Co-Response

Animal Control

School Resource Officer programs

Child Abuse and Domestic Violence

Firearm Safety   

Court System, Probation and Parole

Graduation Ceremony


Potential candidates for the Citizen Academy must meet the following criteria:

21 years of age
Reside in, or be employed within the City of Westfield.  
No prior felony arrests
No misdemeanor arrests within two years of application

This is not a certification course to become a police officer, this is an educational course to give citizens a better understanding of the role of law enforcement.
