Two new technical training programs for unemployed or under-employed workers (earning minimum wage or less or only working part-time) are scheduled to begin in February 2017. Applications are now being accepted for training slots in Advanced Manufacturing Machining at the Westfield Technical Academy in Westfield or the Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative (Career-Tec) located in West Springfield. Learn in-demand skills in manual and CNC machining for entry-level careers as a machinist, inspector or advanced machine operator.
Basic eligibility requirements for the training are a high school diploma or equivalent, be unemployed or under-employed, be at least 18 years
old and be legally eligible to work in the United States. In addition, applicants must take and pass assessment testing.
Foundational curriculum for the training program will consist of:
- Shop Safety
- Applied Math
- Blueprint Reading
- Composition of metals and other materials
- Machining Theory
- Using Measurement Devices such as calipers, micrometers and gauges
- Quality Control
- Introduction to basic shop equipment and tools
- Manual and CNC Machine operations
