The second Coffee With a Cop event was held on April 12 and was a huge success! On Thursday morning between 8 and 11 am, members of the Westfield Police Department were on hand at the Dunkin' Donuts on North Elm Street to meet informally with members of the community. (Insert cop/donut joke here.)
Over the span of three hours, dozens of community members stopped in to speak with officers on topics ranging from the weather to how the Westfield Police deal with current issues like school threats and human trafficking. This function in an informal setting not only gives citizens the opportunity to speak with and get answers from police officers, but it gives police officers the chance to ask questions and get input from the community members we serve. This is an amazing opportunity for idea exchange between citizens and the police. One of our younger residents even bought donuts for the officers in attendance! (See picture below.)
We are planning to make this event a regular occurrence at locations around the city. If your business would like to host Coffee with a Cop, feel free to contact Officer Allen Magdycz at a.magdycz@cityofwestfield.org, or Lt. Eric Hall at e.hall@cityofwestfield.org.
