[ARCHIVED] Powdermill Village Fire Victims Offered Assistance

The Emergency Management Department of the City of Westfield has coordinated with Massachusetts Emergency Management Association (MEMA) and other local relief agencies to provide an information session for those residents displaced by the fire that occurred on April 22nd, 2018.

The session will be held at the community center of Powdermill Village on Thursday, April 26th from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm.

MEMA will be in attendance and will provide information on all aspects of assistance available through the State.  Some of these agencies include, Department of Mental Health/Crisis Counseling, Department of Elder Affairs, Department of Transitional Assistance, Office of Refugee and Immigration, Public Health and Department of Children and Families.

City departments and aid agencies that will be in attendance include Westfield Housing Authority, Westfield Health Department, Westfield Fire Department, Westfield Police, Red Cross and Salvation Army. There will be Russian and Spanish translators on-site ot assist.

Donations are being accepted at the Powerdermill Village Community Center.  At this time, there is no further clothing needs.  Other donation inquiries may be made to Phyllis Ortona of the Tenant Board, at (413) 977-2886.

Mayor Brian Sullivan stated his is grateful for all assistance offered to the Westfield residents that were victims of this tragedy.  "Understand that these families are shocked and scared because of the change in their lives happened in a split second.  Take a moment to be thankful for what we have.  It can change in a heartbeat."
