There have been some changes surrounding handicap placards in Massachusetts recently. Many of the changes have to do with how to qualify for a placard, however, many people are unaware that if you use a placard that is not yours to park in a handicap parking space, you could be fined up to $1000, have your license suspended for a year, and the person who was issued the placard could have it revoked by the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
Please keep in mind that handicap spaces are meant to make life a bit easier for those who have difficulty with mobility. Make sure you find an open space even if it means walking the length of the parking lot. Don't risk a fine and loss of license simply so you can save a minute or two at the store.
Take a close look at the attached chart, and if you have questions feel free to contact the Registry of Motor Vehicles at (800) 858-3926.
