Dog Licenses

Licensing and Registration

Massachusetts General Law requires that all dogs aged six months and older be licensed each year.  A current rabies certificate is required at the time of registration for ALL new licenses and renewals. A spayed/neutered certificate is also required (unless noted on rabies certificate). Licensing helps prevent rabies outbreaks by requiring a certificate of vaccination for all dogs. It also increases the chance that you will be reunited with your pet in the unfortunate event they are lost. Dog licenses can be traced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by Animal Control or the Police Department.

Licensing Fees: *Please bring a check, money order or exact payment*

Spayed/Neutered dog:  $15.00 each
Unspayed/Unneutered dog:  $30.00 each

January 1, 2025, the dog licensing period changed to an annual license period.
The change in the licensing period is more cost effective, reduces the City's carbon footprint and aligns Westfield with the majority of the Commonwealth. Dog license registration forms will be enclosed in the annual City Census, which is mailed to all households in January. Email reminders will be sent prior to March 1, 2026. Dog licenses are due March 31, 2026. Important: Failure to license prior to April 30th, may result in a fine of $50.00 per City Ordinance.
